- Accumulator
- Similar to a parlay, a bet that combines multiple selections and multiplies the odds together.
- Arbitrage
- Exploiting differing odds across bookmakers to guarantee a profit regardless of the outcome.
- Asian Handicap
- A two-way handicap that eliminates the draw outcome, giving a half-goal or quarter-goal line.
- Back Bet
- Betting for a particular outcome to happen, the opposite of a lay bet.
- Bankroll Management
- The practice of setting aside a specific amount of money and staking only a small portion per bet.
- Cash Out
- A feature that lets you settle a bet before the event ends, locking in a profit or limiting a loss.
- Closing Line
- The final odds offered just before a market closes, used to assess betting performance.
- Decimal Odds
- Odds expressed as a single number that includes the stake; multiply your stake by this number to calculate total return.
- Edge
- The statistical advantage a bettor believes they have over the bookmaker's odds.
- Fractional Odds
- Odds shown as a fraction; the numerator shows profit relative to the denominator stake.
- Implied Probability
- The chance of an outcome calculated from the odds, expressed as a percentage.
- In-Play Betting
- Placing a wager after the match has started, with odds that update as the game progresses.
- Juice
- The commission or fee that a bookmaker adds to the odds, also called "vig".
- Kelly Criterion
- A mathematical formula that determines the optimal fraction of your bankroll to wager for maximum long-term growth.
- Lay Bet
- Betting against an outcome, such as a player or team losing, typically on a betting exchange.
- Line Movement
- The change in odds or point spread over time, often caused by betting volume.
- Moneyline
- A bet on which team will win the match outright, with odds expressed as a positive or negative number.
- Over/Under
- A bet on whether the total number of goals scored in a match will be more or less than a set figure.
- Parlay
- A single bet that links two or more selections; all must win for the bet to pay out.
- Point Spread
- A handicap given to the favorite team to level the betting field, expressed as a number of goals.
- Public Money
- Bets placed by the majority of casual bettors, often causing the line to move toward them.
- Steam
- A rapid, heavy shift in odds caused by a large amount of money placed on one side.
- Value Bet
- A bet where the odds offered are higher than the true probability suggests, giving an edge.
- Vig
- Short for "vigorish", the built-in profit margin a bookmaker includes in every wager.
